How to edit copy using AI

Generative Refine is Typeface’s in-line AI writing assistant. It can save you countless hours by helping you write summaries, translate content, change tones, and much more.

You can access Generative Refine within any document in three ways:

#1 To edit a specific phrase or sentence, highlight the section of text you’d like to edit and click the red magic wand.

From here, you’ll see different editing options to choose from:

• Improve writing to see alternative ways to reword the content

• Summarize to get a paragraph that covers key points

• Change tone to write the content in a different voice

• Refine with prompt to make specific edits

• Make shorter to condense the content

• Make longer to add in more descriptions

• Change language to localize the content

#2 To edit a text block, click on the six dots to the left of the text. You’ll see the same editing options as above.

#3 To edit an entire document, click into Co-pilot at the bottom of your document. The “Refine” column has a variety of editing options.

• Transform document into a blog or email

• Change language to localize the content

• Change tone to write the content in a different voice

• Re-generate to generate text based on the same inputs

• Summarize to get a few paragraphs that covers key points

Once you select an option, Typeface will re-generate copy for you. You can do three things with the new copy:

1. If you’re confident in the rewrite, click “Replace Selection” to eliminate the old copy.

2. If you want to incorporate aspects of both the original and new versions, “+ Insert Below” to place the two copy versions next to each other.

3. If you want to see another version of the rewrite, click “Try Again”.

Looking for alternative ways to express your ideas? “Improve writing” helps rewrite your content, so you can see new ways to word the text you’ve selected.

“Improve writing” does not significantly impact the underlying meaning of the copy. Instead, it incorporates slightly more sophisticated language into your original writing style.

“Summarize” helps turn long-form content into a digestible summary. You can place summaries at the top of long blogs, within social promotions, or as landing page copy for gated content pieces. The “Summarize” edit will create a summary that’s about five sentences in length.

Sometimes you need to make particular edits outside of Typeface’s pre-set editing options. You can enter custom commands using the ‘Refine with prompt’ editing option.  

Here are some examples of custom prompts:

• Insert one emoji at the start of each line in this social post

• Turn this paragraph into bullet points

• Talk about the 50% off summer sale in this conclusion paragraph

Sometimes content can appear too fluffy, and you want to shorten it. “Make short” distills key points. For example, you can turns long paragraphs into a few sentences.

How does AI-powered language translation compare with other translation tools?

Generic translation tools tend to make literal translations, while newer AI and large language models can understand cultural cues and sayings. This makes the final translation sound more comparable to a native speaker.

Can I generate multiple versions of a rewrite?

Yes. You can achieve this by making your edit on the chosen text multiple times. When you select '+ Insert Below' for each edit, multiple revised versions will appear below the initial text. This allows you to easily evaluate which of the edited versions is better.
