Scale personalized email variations

Email Agent helps you efficiently manage large numbers of email variations. This guide covers how to create, review, and export email variations in one workflow.

Tip

Ensure your Brand Kit and Audiences are set up before going through this guide. This allows you to create on-brand and high-quality email variations.

Setting up an email

Start by setting up your email campaign, which will then be used to create email variations.

Within Email Agent, click on create a single touch email.
Choose the promotional email
Import the existing email copy that you'd like to scale (HTML, EML, or pre-imported in Brand Kit) or create from scratch. If you import, mark each email block as either dynamic (areas for Typeface to generate new content) or static (logos, footers, etc.). Then add your subject line and preheader copy to complete the import.
Share your campaign objective and any relevant documents (campaign briefs and/or public URLs) about the email campaign. Provide as much context as possible. Even if your email is not generated from scratch, this will create more relevant variations when you scale your email.
Select the Brand Kit and campaign images you’d like to use (or generate). If you’re starting from scratch, choose the email layout you’d like to apply.

Tip

Your imported emails are saved in your Brand Kit for future use. You can rename or further annotate the layout under your Brand Kit.

Generating email variations

After importing or generating your email, you can hover over the email and click ‘Generate Variations.’ If you create your email from scratch, you will automatically see this pane.

Select the target audience(s) and/or the language(s) you would like to create your email variations for. Email Agent will calculate the total number of variations for you, creating one email variation per combination of an audience and a language. For example, selecting three audiences with two languages will give you six variations in total.
Review the variations list. Email Agent pulls from your campaign context and original email to suggest variation topics, framing them specifically for your audience and language preferences. Review and confirm these. You can click into a topic to edit or read more about it.
Once you are satisfied with the variation topics, click ‘Save’ to generate the email variations. Please allow 3-5 minutes for the generation.

Tip

Typeface personalizes variation topics using your audience information. Ensure your audience segments are detailed for the most relevant variations.

Iterating on emails

After generating your initial set of email variations, you can continue to refine your email campaign (e.g. for additional A/B testing):

Create more variations: whether that’s to explore another email variation for the same audience segments or to create variations for new recipient combinations, hover over whichever email you would like to create variations of and click on ‘Generate Variations.’

Duplicate and iterate: If you would like to only change certain sections of a particular email, feel free to hover over it, click on duplicate, and edit certain sections of it using our AI tools.

Review and export

Review your generated emails and use the Content Workflow Manager to approve them as you go. Once ready, you can export in the following ways:

Publish back into your email campaign manager (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
Download as HTML, PDF, or PNG
Download as an Excel file to feed a script into your Email Service Provider (ESP)
Connect an API to access all of the variations you have created at a block level.

Which emails can I create variations of?

You can create variations of any email on your canvas. This includes your imported email or any newly generated email.

Can I just use languages to scale an email?

Yes. You don't have to fill in both audience and language fields. You can translate your email into multiple languages at scale.

Can I create variations of only my subject line and preheader?

Yes, annotate only that section of the email to be dynamic when you're importing. Or duplicate the email and only check out the generate options of your subject line and preheader.

How do I change the generated image in my email?

Typeface generates multiple images for each image block. Go into editing mode and click on the generated image to choose from the alternatives.
